Raed was last seen in the evening on the southwest side of Detroit, MI. His vehicle was later located near the 3400 block of Lovett Street in Detroit. In June 2005, Bashar Farraj and Samer Fawaz were found guilty of the second-degree murder of Raed, even though his remains have never been found. Prosecutors believe the two men killed Raed on October 16 or 17 in the offices of Michigan Mortgage in Sterling Heights, likely by striking a blow to his head. The two men told a Michigan Mortgage receptionist that they had "cleaned up" carpet and other areas in the office where blood had spilled, although they implied to her that it was cranberry juice from a customer who was in the office after hours. DNA tests made on blood found on the carpet and inside a vacuum cleaner was matched to Al-Farah. More of Al-Farah's blood was found inside a 2002 Trailblazer driven by Farraj.
