Substance abuse
Katrina told her mother she was on her way to Roseburg, Oregon with a friend to keep her awake while they were driving and would be home that night or the next morning. Her parents didn't find her behavior unusual and so therefore did not take note of whom she was traveling with or the vehicle. Katrina never returned, leaving her children with her mother.
