In 1999 Gary McCullough disappeared. His wife said he had left the farm in his truck about 6:30 p. m. on May 11th and was headed to Diamond to buy a white fighting rooster and that he never returned. Supervisory personnel at George's Processing plant in Butterfield were first to notice that Gary had failed to report in for his scheduled shift on Wednesday, May 12, 1999, and called his rural Cassville home to see if there was a problem. Plant supervisors called the home again on May 13, 1999, when Gary, usually a reliable and steady worker, once more failed to report in for his scheduled shift. His cousin went to the Barry County Sheriff's Department on May 13, 1999, to report his concerns over his missing relative. He related to law enforcement officials the history of marital problems between Gary and his then-wife.
