Police say they responded to the bridge after the jumper, later identified as 24-year-old Irvin Howard Jr. called 911 saying he was on the bridge and was going to jump. When police arrived, they located Howard sitting on the railing on the crest of the southbound span of the bridge. Police say shortly after they made contact with him, Howard jumped off the bridge. The Fort Myers Fire Department, Cape Coral Fire Rescue, the Lee County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit and the U. S. Coast Guard responded to search for Howard for several hours, but he was not located. At this time, Howard is being considered a missing person.
