Kenneway was last seen on June 4, 1954 at her work at the Pratt & Whitney aircraft factory in East Hartford. Her husband of 12 years, Philip Kenneway, never reported her missing.Philip Kenneway told family members he had left the house on the night of June 4 after arguing with his wife and had gone to the movies. When he got home, Philip said his wife was gone and had taken some clothing, a religious statue, about $3,000 in cash and about $9,000 in savings bonds.Family members and coworkers told police that Anna Kenneway was not the type to suddenly uproot herself. Philip obtained a divorce about two years after her disappearance. In June 1954, the Manchester woman called a coworker from a payphone, saying she was upset and thinking about leaving her husband. When her children from her first marriage contacted the police regarding her disappearance, a report was not taken due to the fact that at that time the police required the husband to file the report, which he never did. Persistence by her children eventually lead to a cursory police investigation on 07/20/54. That police investigation has since been purged. The case was re-opened on 06/01/2006.
